The Girl Annual was the sister book to the Boy's Eagle Annual which were very popular reading for older children in the 1950s.They contained strip cartoon stories of heroes and heroines of life in the mid-upper classes in Britain after the 2nd world war and of course adventure and fantasy.

One of the longest running stories in this publication was Belle of the Ballet. It took many young girls on a trip of fantasy. The idea of being a famous ballerina would have been in the minds of many a young would be dancer, though in reality it would probably never have happened.
